As an Infant Care Teacher at Little Skool-House, Fatmahwati’s favourite part of the day is receiving the infants

Hello! We’re

Cristine & Fatmahwati

We are Infant Care Teachers

Welcome to our reflection on our journey as Infant Care Teachers at NTUC First Campus. Join us as we share insights from our experiences.

Together, we navigate the highs and lows of nurturing and educating infants, weaving a tapestry of passion, dedication, and profound moments.

What inspired you to pursue a career in Infant Care Teaching?

Fatmahwati: I found myself drawn to the transformative power of early childhood education. Despite a career change from hospitality, I felt a deep calling to make a difference in the lives of young children.

Cristine: For me, it was the sheer joy of witnessing the wonders of infancy—each giggle, each milestone, igniting a passion to be a part of their growth journey.

Describe a typical day in your role as an Infant Care Teacher?

Cristine: Our days start early, greeting children with warmth and creating a nurturing space for exploration and learning.

Fatmahwati: Absolutely. From soothing cries to encouraging first steps, our days are filled with moments of discovery and connection, tailored to each child’s unique needs.

Cristine integrates her love for singing & playing the guitar into the lessons

Routines are important to infants, but each infant has a unique routine that we have to follow

What are some of the challenges you face in your profession?

Fatmahwati: The constant challenge lies in understanding and meeting the ever-changing needs of infants, often expressed through cries and gestures.

Cristine: Indeed. It requires patience, empathy, and quick thinking to navigate the intricacies of infant care effectively.

Through activities, Infant Care Teachers observe each infant’s learning needs and interests

How do you ensure effective communication with parents regarding their child’s progress?

Fatmahwati: As a parent myself, I recognise the importance of open communication. We strive to foster trust and transparency, sharing milestones and addressing concerns promptly.

Cristine: Building strong relationships with parents is essential. When they see our genuine dedication to their child’s well-being, it fosters a sense of partnership in their journey.

What support do you receive from your colleagues and the organisation?

Cristine: We’re fortunate to be part of a supportive network of colleagues and mentors who offer guidance and encouragement.

Fatmahwati: Absolutely. Our organisation values professional development and seeks our input, creating a collaborative environment that fuels our growth and passion.

What is the most rewarding aspect of being an Infant Care Teacher?

Fatmahwati: For me, it’s the profound impact we have on shaping young minds and witnessing their growth.

Cristine: I couldn’t agree more. Seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter—it’s a reminder of the incredible privilege we have in nurturing the next generation.
