Local preschools are strengthening environmental education to nurture sustainable habits from an early age.
My First Skool at Blk 153 Bishan encourages mindful consumption during meals by portioning food based on appetite to reduce waste.
Principal Cheryl Lin shared that children are more conscious about finishing their food and understand that they should not waste food. “The children know they cannot waste food, and they ensure their plates and fruit bowls are clean before putting them into the collection bin,” she said.
The children also contribute to sustainability in simple ways, such as collecting rainwater on rainy days or bringing handkerchiefs to school to reduce paper usage.
