Focused Literacy Assistance in Reading Programme (FLAiR)

Children from lower income families tend to lack opportunities with reading material, writing experiences, and opportunities for speaking and listening to the English language at home. The Focused Language Assistance in Reading (FLAiR) programme is an initiative by the Ministry of Education (MOE) for preschool children, to prepare them for formal schooling.

Highlights

  • Focused assistance to K2 children at My First Skool centres who have problems with the English language

Benefits

|

Rolling out this programme in partnership with MOE since 2007, FLAiR provides focused assistance to K2 children at My First Skool centres who have problems with the English language. Executed by trained teachers, FLAiR supports children in their speaking, reading and other uses of English. This is carried out through dedicated lessons on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.

FLAiR has been successful in facilitating children’s progress in language learning, and they have been seen to actively participate in class discussions and language activities after just a few months in the programme.
