NTUC First Campus clinches gold award!

June 07, 2016

At this year’s May Day Awards, NTUC First Campus (NFC) was honoured to be one of the four Co-operatives nominated by the National Trade Union Congress (NTUC) with the support of Unions, to be awarded the Plaque of Commendation (Gold) award in recognition of its significant contributions to the Labour Movement.

Believing that every child deserves a good start in life, NFC was highlighted for its phenomenal growth which has seen the expansion of its network of pre-schools from 50 to 141 centres. Other than bringing quality, affordable early childhood care and education to Singapore families, NFC is also doing more to provide development opportunities for its staff. As an early adopter of the Progressive Wage Model for PME (Professionals, Managers and Executives) staff, NFC implemented a structured career ladder which assures staff of their professional development. To ensure fair remuneration, salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff are regularly reviewed, resulting in improved staff retention.

About 326 of our centre attendants taking care of cooking and hygiene at NFC pre-schools have also benefited from the Inclusive Growth Programme which not only helped older workers to continue to play a big role in raising children but also achieved significant pay increases for them. NFC’s strong union-management partnership with Education Service Union (ESU) has also led to the implementation of portable medical benefits and staff wellness plans. Today about 80 per cent of our staff are union members, benefiting from union membership.

This honourable award would not have been possible without an organisation that never fails to take care of its people. Here’s a big Thank-You to all staff and hope they would continue to grow with us to inspire more young lives!
